In December of 1934 Ben Pollack's band broke up. Most of his musicians returned to New York and Wingy Manone hired a number of them, including Matty Matlock(clt), Eddie Miller(clt and ten) Nappy Lamare(gtr) and Ray Bauduc(drs). They worked together for some months and made a number of records, including 'The Isle of Capri', which became a huge hit. This is the band that provides the bulk of the music on this CD. Manone produces a driving lead and many short vocals and Eddie Miller is responsible for some splendid tenor sax solos. The tunes are mostly popular songs of the day and the music the band produces is cheerful and melodic - vintage Dixieland Jazz!"
