"Dame Vera Lynn opens this CD with a joyful "I Love to Sing". The song acts on two levels, firstly by setting the overall tone of this album, but it also sums up Lynn's attitude in regards to her incredible talent and her sheer love of performing for an audience. This CD is quite different to any other Vera Lynn disc on the market, because it's made up of transcription recordings taken from Lynn's 1958 radio programme, "The Vera Lynn Show".
Radio transcriptions, you say? Now before you start getting worried, rest assured that all the songs sound absolutely pristine, remastered in 24-bit technology from original 78-rpm sources. It's another feather in the cap for the Sepia label.
"The Vera Lynn Show" gave Ms Lynn the chance to not only sing all her classic favourites, but also many songs she'd never have the opportunity to professionally record otherwise. That means, in addition to all the Vera Lynn staples like "How Green Was My Valley", "I'll Be Seeing You", etc.; you'll delight in "Tammy", "Mr. Wonderful", "Baubles, Bangles and Beads", "Sometimes I'm Happy", and "Witchcraft". It's like suddenly discovering a whole new chapter to your favourite book.
The disc comes generously packed with 27 tracks and an informative booklet containing many lovely pictures of Ms Lynn, recording dates and more. It's the perfect surprise gift for the Vera Lynn fan in your life. Recommended.
