Synopsis

Product Description
Music publishing legend Don Kirshner was a great spotter of talented songwriters. He discovered and nurtured the careers of Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, for example, and they don't come much better than that. The Goffin-King and Mann-Weil teams already have collections of their work available in our highly regarded and strong-selling Songwriter series. Now it's the turn of Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield, the young hit-making duo who got Kirshner's Aldon publishing empire up and running in 1958. As luck would have it, Kirshner was friends with new sensation Connie Francis, who consented to give the pair's songs a listen, and fell in love with Stupid Cupid. There would be no looking back for Sedaka, Greenfield, Francis or Kirshner. The CD comes with a lavish booklet featuring a wealth of period photographs and illustrations, an in-depth essay and detailed track-by-track notes based on an exclusive interview with Sedaka, whose story is told in a stage musical set to open soon in London's West End. The track list spans the years 1956 to 1971. Of the 25 tracks, 17 are Sedaka/Greenfield compositions, the remainder representing their work with other collaborators, each of whom are also the subjects of mini-bios in the booklet. Compilation and notes are by Mick Patrick.
