Similar in scope to Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women in Music, which captures the inaugural tour, the 1998 festival is presented on volumes 2 and 3, with each disc available separately this time around. Volume 2 offers ... more »a large dose of the folksy acoustic fare we've come to associate with VH-1 (i.e., Natalie Merchant, Lisa Loeb, Shawn Colvin), with a side helping of angry-young-woman rock (Tracy Bonham, Sinead O'Connor, Holly McNarland) and an assortment of other performers. While wholly enjoyable, the standouts are Queen Latifah's diva-style dish on "Life," O'Connor's impassioned "Fire of Babylon," Angelique Kidjo's West African pop tune "Never Know," and Emmylou Harris's duet with Sarah McLachlan on "Angel," which transports the Surfacing hit to realms heretofore unrealized. --Paige La Grone« less

"Thank you Sarah for exposing the public to artists that otherwise would go unknown. It is worth buying the C.D. for "Angel" alone. How do you make a great song even better ? Oh I don't know add Emmylou Harris. People, this lady is a national treasure who has never gotten her props because the so called radio and record excutives have either labeled her or haven't labled her properly. Do yourself and your ears a favor, after buying this C.D. and Vol.III of Lilith Fair, start your Emmylou collection. Give her the support and love that she greatly deserves !!!"

"I wrote a review for this CD several months ago, saying I didn't like it apart from a few songs. After that, I put the CD away. I recently brought it out again, put it in the CD player, and realized "Hey, there's some good stuff on here." I didn't like it at first. Now I love it. If you are wanting to try some Lilith Fair, my advice would be to borrow this from someone... Listen to the whole thing a few times, even if you don't like it the first time. For some odd reason, it just grows on you till you are playing it nonstop."

"OK I HAVE GONE TO HEAVEN! HEARING SARAH AND EMMYLOU SING ANGEL TOGETHER IS WORTH EVERY PENNY YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS CD! EMMYLOU HARRIS CAN SING WITH ANYBODY AND SOUND GOOD, AND ANGEL IS ONE THE BEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN! THE OTHER TRACKS ARE OK, BUT ANGEL BLOWS ALL THE OTHER SONGS AWAY! THE HARMONIES ARE AMAZING! YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!"
Women's music at its best

"It is quite rare these days to find high quality compilations featuring female artists, but this is an absolute exception. 'Lilith Fair 2' contains a wonderful mix of old and new artists, all of whom sing with great passion and vibrancy. The music comes across as being meaningful and listenable, and successfully captures the diversity which has really brought women's music to the fore. Standout tracks include 'Angels' which is beautifully sung by Sarah and Emmylou, 'Island' by Heather Nova (she truly has an angelic voice), 'Sway' by Bic Runga (she epitomizes warmth and tenderness) and 'In the Ghetto' by the brilliant Natalie Merchant. Moreover, this compilation exudes all that is great about women's music and it truly will not disappoint. If only there were more compilations (other than the 'Lilith series) besides this!"

"I love this Cd. Esp Sarah & Tracy. A plethora of my favourite artists are on it. The Lilith CDs help me discover new artists cuz they're not on MTV as much as other people."
