Synopsis

Amazon.com
Dr. Demento is an archivist elf of the first order. Testament to his timeworn ways is this collection of fractured holidays tunes and his earlier The Greatest Christmas Novelty CD of All Time. The good Doc showcases 17 tunes here, although the collection could do without nearly a quarter of those, including Joseph Spence's oddity "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and the Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping." The latter is a pop-rap tune that sounds pretty tame in the cracked company of the inimitable Bob Rivers ("The Twelve Pains of Christmas"), Spike Jones (sending up New Year's resolutions), and Father Guido Sarducci ("Santa's Lament"). Then there's James & Kling's perverse "A Terrorist Christmas," as well as a couple of loopy Hanukkah tunes, one a rap number by Doc Mo She and the other from Gefilte Joe & the Fish. --Martin Keller

CD Reviews

SHE'S A WITCH, I HATE HER!
Gypsychick | miami, fl USA | 08/28/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The definitive Christmas CD is here. Wandering in dementia you will come upon some of the most hilarious holiday songs ever written. While Dr. Demento Presents: Greatest Xmas Novelty CD serves up a dinner table of fabulous "oldies" of this genre (and is also a "must have") Holiday in Dementia brings us a whole new collection of weirdness. Everyone's favorite man of the cloth Father Guido Sarducci moans "Santa's Lament", a tale of ungrateful children and robotic "yes" elves what will make you howl. "The Twelve Pains of Christmas" is a that same old tune with a whole new set of lyrics that take us through a sleigh ride of deterioration as folks battle the season and each other (my favorite line in the song sung by a woman who begins by caroling the joys of cooking a holiday dinner for her inlaws and finally screams out "She's a witch! I hate her!"). . "Rusty Chevrolet" is a sleigh of a different color which speeds through town, trying to pick up booze and layaways while losing parts in its wake. Divorced with spoiled kids? "Christmas Is Coming Twice This Year" is the tune for you. There are so many more. And you can end the year with "It's Christmas and I Wonder Where I Am" as you stagger from party to party, sleep it off and awake to "New Year's Resolutions." Yep, this one covers it all. You will be laughing into the next year."
Excellent Collection of Offbeat christmas songs

"The is a very funny collection of some of the best humorous Christmas songs around. If your tired of all the tradional Christmas songs and you want to laugh and have a good time then you should buy this cd!"
Funny, but not for smaller kids

"The songs are fun, especially if you are really tired of the traditional Xmas songs. Many of the pieces are not for elementary-age kids."
