Not your average Xmas album

"Leave it to Projekt Records to make something as harmless like Christmas carols and turn it into something dark and forboding. A DARK NOEL is the label's most recent Christmas album. This is a nice antidote to all the glut of Xmas cds that are churned out by the dozen. I am not really familiar with some of the songs but that makes no difference to me. The overall theme is that of winter solstice or Christmas. I like that I am not familiar with some of the songs. It does get tiring hearing the same song on every Christmas album I listen to, especially John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)", good song but hearing people cover it on every single Xmas cd I have listened to does get tiring. Every artist offers something different to the song they re-interpret for the album. While I enjoyed every single song on the album, I am especially fond of Love Spirals Downards' version of "Welcome Christmas" from HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, El Duende's "Gaudete, Gaudete", and Faith and the Muse's "A Winter Wassail". A DARK NOEL is easily my favorite Christmas album of this year."
