"Naxos Records seem to be rapidly expanding their many catalogues. To their excellent Nostalgia series, they now add a CD of the Corsican singer Tino Rossi (1907-1983). Established as a cabaret, recording and film star in Paris in the 1930s, Rossi made hundreds of recordings. If, like me, you have tried eagerly to acquire them in their CD format, you'll be pleased that this Naxos release of 19 items includes many rarities, amongst them a traditional Corsican "Berceuse" dating from the start of his recording career. No light tenor ever made singing sound so easy as did Tino Rossi, "the most famous Corsican since Napoleon", even when ascending to a high Bb. Fortunately he was well managed by his recording producers who made sure songs of good quality came his way and worthy accompaniments were provided."
