Synopsis

Product Description
While known as a great swing band, San Francisco favorites Tin Cup Serenade is deeply rooted in the blues, and draws from Ragtime, New Orleans Jazz, Mariachi, Calypso, Mento and Western Swing also. Guitarist/vocalist Rolf Wilkinson fronts Tin Cup Serenade with a relaxed croon that is maudlin and elegant, combining elements of Billy Holiday, Chet Baker, and Hank Williams. This debut CD features mostly his original compositions, and provides a showcase of their unique and timeless sound. Featuring some of the finer seasoned jazz musicians in the bay area, including Safa Shokrai on bass, Pete Cornell on saxophones, Larry Leight on slide trombone, Lech Wierzynski on trumpet, Raynier Jacildo on piano, and Adam Goodhue on drums.Tin Cup Serenade currently plays every Wednesday at the bamboo room of Le Colonial Restaurant in San Francisco, plus Amnesia and Mama Toby's Revolution Cafe in the Mission District regularly as well.

CD Reviews

Great song writing, great jazz sound
David | San Francisco, US, Canada | 03/30/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have to say I was very impressed by this album. The songs are all very well written and catchy, and the band has a great sound. I've had this CD in my car stereo for about a week now, and I keep listening to "This Rainy May" over and over. The sax player reminds me a lot of Lester Young. It's so hard to find people well versed in that classic, melodically-oriented jazz sound, so it's especially nice when they're doing originals. Definitely thumbs up."
