Product DescriptionA collection of hymns and music which many will remember from Sunday school days. Today's children will love them! An album of warm, favourite songs of thoughtfulness and meditation from a more innocent age. Perfect to introduce the young to (or to remind the young at heart of) good quality music from the past. For the beauty of the earth For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise. For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon, and stars of light.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise. Fine thoughts and simple ones open our collection of songs for Sunday school, which mixes staunch Anglican hymns with, frankly, sentimental songs in religious vein. All are beautiful and lovely to listen to, but some stand out for me. 'Scarlet ribbons' is poignant and moving. 'The old rugged cross', the words and music of which were composed by the American writer and evangelist George Bennard, is a perennial favourite, with its slow and sombre melody supporting a text full of hope which looks forward to a better world. 'The Lord's my shepherd' is sung to the well-known tune 'Crimond', and is a hymn often heard at family occasions. Its words are a paraphrase of Psalm 23. 'Praise my soul the King of heaven' is one of the Christian world's all-time favourite wedding hymns, as well as being suitable for many other events. ' The holy city' by Stephen Adams remains a moving and dramatic work today. The other hymns and songs make a fine collection of music from the past, which, through its sheer quality, remains of interest and relevance to us today.
