I have heard this album over and over and I never seem to tire from listening to it. I have truly adored The Merkin Dream's previous albums but I must say that their newest project "Cottage' has taken a major step forward in the evolution of musical artistry. These chaps continually cultivate and refine their craft with every creative endeavor they embark. In a world of bubble gum and vapid music the Merkin Dream brings a gift to the masses seeking sustenance by synthesizing brilliant narratives with graceful melodies.



Regardless of your favored musical genre, "Cottage" will fit into your life and find permanent residency in your CD player. There is so much junk food out in this world and since the nature of music is based on taste, you might as well splurge on meal that nurtures you. This album does such. If you feel you've forgotten the sensation of being moved and thrilled by an album then I truly suggest you pick up "Cottage" by The Merkin Dream.

"Not earbuds, either. This one's a spare aural trip like the best ones from the 60s. A new-found pop sensibility and some tasty guitar work added to the electronic mastery of their previous releases. Definitely not just more of the same. Lyrics are interesting this time: one song seems to be sung by a dead man, and their supposed Rhode Island School of Design background is evoked in Art Students. (Note that there's still no band photos, so the rumours about who these guys really are will certainly continue. No clues on banana-apple.com, either.) My girlfriend heard a Merkin Dream song in a little club in Montreal that's supposed to be from a new album called "Collecting Rocks." She said it was beautiful."

And i thought ken jennings was genius...
