"For me Dame Janet Baker is THE best Mahler singer. Like her English predecessor Kathleen Ferrier, Baker's voice is characterised by that marvellous juxtaposition of warmth and a tragic tone. She can be devastating, even-toned and has great stamina."

"The Songs of a Wayfarer songcycle is a great entry point into the delights of Mahler [as are The Song of the Earth and the Resurrection Symphony]. It is also a great place to begin listening to classical song, as the tunes are simple [yet profound] and easy to appreciate.Janet Baker's performance with Geoffrey Parsons is superb. There is great subtlety in the way the music is presented by both singer and accompanist. It is also worth purchasing her version with Sir John Barbirolli to hear Mahler's beautiful orchestration of his music."
