Synopsis

Album Description
With Great Voices, Great Songs, 24 of popular music?s best and most beloved singers contribute their incomparable talents to help raise money for The Society of Singers, a nonprofit organization that gives assistance to professional singers in financial or medical crisis. The result is an album of standards that spans the generations and embodies the very best of American popular song, from a young Frank Sinatra tackling the old chestnut "Sweet Lorraine" to rising star Jane Monheit helping usher Bread?s "If" into the Great American Songbook. Best of all, part of the proceeds of the sale of the CD goes to support singers worldwide, via The Society of Singers. Includes an incredible line-up of popular singers, including Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé, Nat "King" Cole, and k.d. lang--17 GRAMMY®-winning artists in all! Includes the Jill Scott/George Benson duet on "Summertime," which made its debut on the Bravo television special "Broadway?s Best" and which is previously unavailable on CD, as well as Celine Dion?s version of "Bewitched," which was only available on the Mona Lisa Smile soundtrack.

CD Reviews

A stellar selection of today's and yesterday's greats!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The track listing alone should tell you that this is a truly inspired collection. Not only is it a "Who's Who" of the great vocalists of the 20th century, but it is also a glimpse into the great voices carrying on in their tradition. Celine Dion turns in a surprisingly restrained (in a good way!) version of "Bewitched." There's no denying the timeless greatness of Sinatra's "Sweet Lorraine," Ella's "Miss Otis Regrets," and Nat's "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," to name a few. But there is soooo much more on this disc. I was unfamiliar with Aretha's take on "God Bless The Child" but was blown away by it. Little Jimmy Scott's version of "Over The Rainbow" is another highlight. Really, there isn't one bad song on this collection. Pick it up today. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and a portion of the proceeds benefit a worthy cause: The Society of Singers (www.singers.org) who provide financial and other assistance to singers in need."
