"While I admit that "traditional" is responsible for a great deal of excellent music, I suspect a bit more detail is required to pique your interest in this album. Much of the music is unaccompanied mixed choir although psaltery, violin, bells and hurdy-gurdy make appearances. The sound of the songs is highly varied - some reminds you of Orthodox chant, some of Bulgarian women's choirs, etc. .... The musicianship is excellent. The disk comes in a small book that provides an introduction to the tradition and some photos. Anyone interested in Russian religious music should hear this - it is a marvelous example of the "little tradition" and contrasts/supports the "great tradition" of the Orthodox church."
