A nice overview of Russ Columbo...

"Take Two is one of the finest labels out there, they re-issue rare recordings by The Boswell Sisters, and amny other great artists. Take Two puts the spotlight on Russ Columbo, who was a rival crooner of Bing Crosby. Columbo had a warm baritone, and would go on to influence countless other jazz artists in the vein of Billie Holiday... as well as middle of the road pop singers like Perry Como. This is a great collection of his trademark songs and though one wishes it were a more complete set since he only recordrd 32 songs in his short lifetime, it is still one of the best Columbo CD's out there. A must have for jazz vocal collectors. As Will Friedwald would say(authur of JAZZ SINGING) If the CD's got Russ Colubos' name on it buy it."
