Album Description
The enormous success of the Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999) assured him a place as the most important Spanish composer following World War II, although its popularity was never equaled by any of his many other works. Joaquín Turina (1882?1949) became one of the grandfathers of the twentieth-century Spanish musical tradition. Turina was fascinated by the possibility of featuring Spanish motifs and melodies in a rich orchestral setting, as can be heard in his Canto a Sevilla (1927). Guitarist Luis Orlandini was born in Chile and began guitar studies at age eleven. A major prize led to many concerts and radio appearances throughout Germany and in many European countries. Since 1994 he has been a professor of music in Santiago. Born in Barcelona, soprano Ana Rodrigo is today one of Spain?s best-known singers, from zarzuela to opera and sacred music. Since the 1994 season, Adrian Leaper has been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.
