"The steadily increasing number of fans of Italian film music will love this rare treat. The film, even by Italian standards, is obscure. Yet the composer of the soundtrack Riz Ortolani is one of film music's unsung geniuses. Ortolani has always found himself playing second fiddle to other giants of the craft (Morricone, Piccioni, Travajoli, Nicolai, Umiliani etc.)despite creating a huge and varied body of scores for an equally vast range of film and TV genres. The music on this CD amply displays these qualities, from his trademark lush orchestrations, through quirky, erotic inserts to psychedelic beat pop. The team behind Mondo Candido, directors Jacopetti and Prosperi created with Ortolani the best examples of the 'mondo' genre within which music was critical to the power of the films. Ortolani's score for Mondo Cane even resulted in an Oscar nomination for the theme song ('More'). Mondo Candido interprets the work of French philosopher Voltaire and is not a 'mondo' film and is little seen. Yet the melodic, lush and groovy score is one of the composers best and is a welcome reissue from an excellent label."
It's a pity that we can't buy the movie
