"This is the finest treatment of Rachmaninov's intricate, complex, and well-structured Sonata for Cello and Piano (Op. 19) I've yet heard, and the CD contains many other cello/piano arrangments of Rachmaninov songs that you won't find elsewhere. The challenges inherent in such recordings are numerous: finding a skilled cellist and pianist who can master the material in a cooperative fashion without competing with each other; achieving proper balance of the instruments and excellent audio quality (we've all heard the bad recordings); and a good selection of pieces. This CD excels in all these areas. Moray Welsh and Martion Roscoe are to be commended for their performances that capture so well the wistful, slightly melancholic nature of Rachmaninov's early pieces. Black Box is to be commended for making such a treasured recording available to us all. Absolutely beautiful."
