"For the most part, this album contains some rather (at least to me) unfamiliar solo piano works by Rachmaninov. However, there is one BIG exception to the aforesaid. The album does contain what is perhaps, Rachmaninov's most famous solo piano work, The Prelude in C Sharp Minor which is part of his Morceaux de fantaisie, for piano, Op. 3. The rest of the contents, I do feel are not played too often. What a pity! This album contains some of the most beautiful compositions by Sergey that I have ever heard-they are GORGEOUS.
I have always felt that Vladimir Ashkenazy is a master at playing Rachmaninov's piano music. This album is no exception. He plays these beautiful works as if they are in his blood. Bravo!
If you want to hear some beautiful Rachmaninov played sublimely by a master buy this disc. It is wonderful
By the way, the recorded sound is lush and warm!
