"This disc is the perfect elixir to raise the spirits with it's songs of praise derived from ancient manuscripts. Hesperion XX(now XXI) is a Spanish ensemble made up of classically trained musicians who play ancient music. The music featured on this disc is from the middle ages and the Renaissance performed with gusto and respect for a time period long past. The featured soprano, Montserrat Figueras, has the voice of an angel and compliments this timeless music. The Spanish group is led by Jordi Savall, who is also married to Montserrat, plays the viola de gamba. Under his guidance the music is royal and inspired by a higher authority. This is transcendent music that takes the listener to another time and place. It is peaceful music that is both inspirational and cleansing. The included booklet is in four languages which indicates the international appeal of Hesperion XX. Highly recommended for those that like a change of pace to listen to the music of the distant past now. The incredibly low price is a bargain that should not be passed up for those that like early music or historical period pieces performed with refined virtuosity."
