"My gripe with most recordings of "art songs" is that the performances are boring, as if the music has been fed through a vocal processor, technique overrides heart. This is never the case with Odekhiren Amaize, who makes each song his own. For my money, there is no voice or heart more perfectly suited to interpret these deep, rich Russian songs than his deep, rich Bass-Baritone...the combination of Rakhmaninov and Amaize is nothing short of amazing, and I was moved to tears on more than one occasion even though (not speaking Russian and not first having read the English translations) I didn't have a clue what the text was about. Absolutely stunning!"
