"I'm tempted at first listening to remark on all the things Polly is not, like she's not a big Streisand or Wilson voice, nor is hers a jazz interpretation like Betty's. More reminiscent of Clooney or Page, what Polly's voice lacks in the comparison she more than makes up for with an impeccable sense of rhythm. Understated to be sure but never lacking, Polly's interpretations of old standards are fresh and revitalizing enough to make me hope she'd sing my compositions. I made Polly's acquaintance during her time on the cabaret scene in Chicago in the 1980s and while I can't claim to have known her well it seemed to me that she embodied the adage that says you have to have lived it in order to sing it. If you're looking for a genuinely musical recording destined to outlast state of the art glitz or simply want to impress your hipper friends with your good taste, then add this to your shelf."
