(5 out of 5 stars)
"Although they're currently in storage, I have around six CD's of Paul Robeson's music, of which I regard "Green Pastures" as one of the best.
I've been a fan of Paul Robeson, and his Bass/Baritone voice, since I was fortunate enough to be taken to see his film, Sanders of the River, in 1947. The film was a British Empire propaganda type film, so not worth seeing for the plot, but the music, and particularly Paul Robeson's absolutely magnificent bass/baritone voice, was wonderful. In fact, it is my opinion that there has never been a singer in any category, including opera, with a better, more resonant, voice than that of Paul Robeson. It was on a par with the church organs that sometimes accompanied him. One of the vilest things the U.S. State department ever did was to accuse him of being a communist and take away his passport to bring pleasure to European music lovers. Perhaps the most stupid thing the Americans ever did, apart from attacking Iraq. Note, by the way, that I consider this CD superior to those that have already been awarded 5 stars!"
