Synopsis

Album Description
This CD celebrates Petula Clark's seven decades in show business, including songs from a 1942 radio broadcast (at age ten) plus other rare and previously unreleased recordings from her early film and broadcasting career. Clark's first commercial recordings in 1949 were conducted by Joe "Mr. Piano" Henderson, and the two later worked together on various projects. Henderson's solo recordings achieved British chart success, and some of those hits are featured here.

CD Reviews

Very enjoyable

"I hadn't realized that Pet had had a whole life before her '60s hits, but I was just a kid then and not really aware of things before that decade. I was impressed at the uplifting lyrics and the upbeat optimism. Perhaps it was what people wanted to hear after coming through the horrors of the war years. I just wish that today's music scene was focused to good and happy thoughts. I have also since bought a couple of her DVD concerts and the one which is a reissue of a TV special she once did (& included quest Harry Bellefonte)was quite impressive. She is really talented and has a special way of adding vocal expression and melody to a song. I have found much more to appreciate and enjoy, songs of more substance and joy than just the pop hits which I knew her by in the '60s."

"Petula Clark is my favorite female singer. She had a great career before making it in America. The cuts on this CD show what a beautiful voice she had early in her career and still has today."
