"I had no idea who Nina Storey was, but a few months ago I went to a Jonny Lang concert in Denver, Colorado and she just happened to be the opening act. When she started to sing I was amazed! She has a beautiful soulful voice! Shades has a variety of music that everyone can enjoy. My personal favorites on this CD are: "Crown," "If I Were an Angel," "False Ideas," "Face," and "Shades." I like all of the songs, so that is why I have so many favorites. In Febuary I am going to go and see her again at Blues Blast 2000 in Mesa, Arizona. If you have listened to this album and do not like it, you need to re-listen and you will see, that she is a very talented person!"
Great "breakthrough" recording. Nina's going to be HUGE!

"Shades gives Nina Story the opportunity to display her power and range. "Intro" is a short a cappella piece with Nina blasting away at the end leading right into "Let Us Walk" (my favorite track on the CD). This piece features a nice baffled Miles-like trumpet back up. Nina rocks into "Coffee and Margaritas" which features the words of her writing partner Jan Storey. "Crown" is Nina in a quieter mood. This song reminds me of pianist/singer Barbara Higbie (late of Montreaux). "If I Were An Angel" begins in this quieter mood but soon picks up into an almost reggae rhythm. "False Ideas" just rocks! "Face" is a sweet song written by Nina and shows maturity beyond her years. Whoa! "Left" is like an acid-flash-back to Janis Joplin. Is Nina singing in gold lamme bell bottoms and mules? "No Man" is another a cappella piece and well..."Disease of Suggestion" is another rocker featuring NIna's writing. "Blue Million Wish" you just have to hear; it has a Beatlesque quality that just draws you in. As I listen "Shades", the title track, I am reminded of the recently deceased Laura Nyro. This is an excellent closer. As you can tell, I'm a Nina Storey fan. I had the opportunity to see her once and what truly impressed me (besides her singing, writing, and performing!) was how such a tiny woman could have the range and power Nina possesses. GO NINA!"
Beautiful voice, great original lyrics.

"This young Coloradoan put together the best CD from this region in decades. Great live, (see Bootleg CD for early mountain town live sets) Shades is a smooth collection of Jazz, Blues, Pop, and Gospel, from the studio that show cases a very dynamic voice, with super backups and solid guitar and bass licks. You will find yourself humming the tunes and searching for the liner notes. She will be big soon."
NINA STOREY AND BAND - AWESOME!!

"I heard "Let Us Walk" one day on the radio and was just taken aback by the amazing voice on Nina! I rushed out and bought "Shades".....that was in May and I STILL get the shivers when I listen to them and realize how very talented they all are!! You have to be amazed at the range Nina has.....and how such powerful sounds can be emitted from a little bit of a woman like her. They're all truly amazing - AND just very wonderful people!! My favorites are Left, Crown, and Shades - and one that's not on any of the CD's - A Better Man.....you have to go see her to hear that one!"
Please, Give me more!!!!

"Thank you, Nina Storey for the most original music I have heard yet..... The only problem that I have with the CD is that the title track is the last one... Otherwise, Nina is destined to be the next Brittney Spears in the New Age of Music and recording. My opinion may not be the best but, i have one anyway. If you have a CD player, your collection is far from complete without this release. Period!! So, Nina, if you read this.... Give Me More!!!"
