"Anyone who appreciates Russian art-song could hardly fail to be moved by this compellingly beautiful music. The outstanding collaboration between Tozer and Andrew is superb. Sure Andrew has lost the bloom of youth in her voice but this has been replaced with an enrichment in the total 'understanding' of the music and ofcourse text because Ludmilla Andrew is of Canadian birth and Russian parentage, a veteran and Grande Dame of Opera she has sung this repertoire for some years. Geoffrey Tozer is a very sympathetic accompanist never retiring or maddeningly decreet in his approach nor overbearingly virtuosic, he is a complete 'musician' playing the way Medtner himself would have; supporting the vocalist not beating them down.
Put simply this CD is worth its weight in gold. A rare treasure to be returned to time and time again for uplifting inspiration, beauty and poetry...a gem."
