"Beautiful, warm, straight-tone singing. Artistic phrasing. Perfect intonation. Fabulous organ chorales. This recording is on a par with the best of the Boston Camerata and Harry Christoper's The Sixteen. The Cambridge Bach Ensemble has given new life to seldom performed motets of 17th century German composers including Scheidt, Schein, and Schutz. The eight singers give amazing clarity to the vocal lines and are always aware of the text. The basso continuo is rendered impeccably throughout. The recording of Bach's motet "Komm, Jesu, Komm" alone is worth the price of the disk. The singers, especially sopranos Ellen Hargis and Pamela Murray, make this difficult motet sound completely effortless. The liner notes by director Scott Metcalfe and organist Peter Sykes are thorough, interesting and informative. Just an added bonus to a truly exquisite recording."
