Passion, emotion and innovation: a gem of an album!

"Mireille's September 99 Album is quite a surprise. It is an ideal blend of eternal passion with modern tempo and music! Unlike her German album releases of the 70s (and, to a lesser extent, of the 80s), the present piece is likely to satisfy the ears of even Anglo-Saxon listeners because the music is more international, less obviously Germanic, while Mireille's voice is as compelling, powerful and poignant as ever! My favourite tracks on this CD are "Das Echo der verlor'nen Zeit" (The echo of days gone forever), "Leg dein Herz in meine Hand", "Wie soll ich leben ohne dich", "Alles nur ein Spiel" and "Immer frei sein", but practically all the titles are arresting, either moving or full of zest. (The one I like least of all is "C'est ça l'amour", because it is so unlike Mireille; but, then, à chacun ses goûts, n'est-ce pas?!)"

"Perhaps one of the most inspiring albums Mireille has recorded in the recent years. Mireille's phrasing and musicality remain ageless.
In this album the makers try to bring the artist back into the pop mainstream as she tackles modern songs in her own distinctive way. Highlights: Das Echo Der Verlor'nen Zeit. Immer Frei Sein and Niemals Ohne Dich among others.
Mireille Mathieu remains one of the truly most versatile and challenging performer's of all time.."

Good CD of German music.

"This CD, "Alles Nur ein Spiel" (All Only One Play), does not strike me as her best German album. However, I love the type of music on this CD. Thus, I approach a review of this CD with mixed emotions. I like the music very much, but I do not think others will share my opinion. On to the details. There are twelve songs on this CD, and not as much variety as in most Mireille Mathieu CDs, as this is almost entirely love songs with similar music types. Despite this criticism, the music greatly appeals to me personally. I particularly liked: "Wie soll ich leben ohne dich" (As I am to Live Without You); "Paris"; "Das echo der verlorenen zeit" (The Echo of a Lost Time); "Immer frei sein" (Always Freely Given); "Niemal ohne dich" (Never without You); and, "Liebe stirbt nie" (Love Never Dies). A good, but not great, Mireille Mathieu German CD, but right down my alley."
