CD Reviews

A surprise Lindy dream!
10/22/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this disk after listening to "Massachusetts" during a Lindy workshop. It, and most of the other songs on the disk are fabulous for a laid back, energetic dance. Sullivan's voice is beautiful, and her singing is effortless. Very much like Ella.Don't buy this if you're looking for hyper neo-swing that you can't dance to. But if you're looking for some great standards sung by a great singer with great backup musicians, this is a great one."
Similar to the Recording "My Memories of You"

"This is one of her better recordings. She is backed by some of the great names of jazz including Charlie Shavers, Buster Bailey, and Dick Hyman to name a few. This recording is similar to the "My Memories of You" which has two extra tracks on it. Either way it is a great recording showcasing her terrific voice. She is one of the few singers who was able to maintain her voice during her lengthy career. If you have not heard her Swedish recordings done in the 70's you should hear them, fantastic. They are also available here on amazon under the name of "Queen.""

"I bought this CD partially based on the other review & haven't been disappointed. The backup musicians are excellent; they're very light (I dislike overbearing backup) and swing well. Maxine Sullivan is also good, and her playfulness is infectious. Most of the songs are eminently dancible (yes, I'm also into Lindy Hop). This is among my favorite swing CDs."
