"A contemporary of Billie Holiday that, sadly, few have heard of. More jazzy than bluesy, Maxine showed a very light, subtle touch in making these titles her own. Some will recognize the tunes by more contemporary artists (like Frank Sinatra's Please Be Kind and Willie Nelson's Blue Skies), and will be thrilled by these interpretations. Maxine is always in control, and takes you to mellow places you never knew existed. Great arrangements and a beautiful voice make this a real delight. You may be distressed at the fidelity, but remastering thankfully leaves a bit of hiss so one can enjoy the full range of the listening spectrum. You will quickly forget that these recordings are well over 50 years old. Hey, even your Mom will love this. Mine does."
