"Smile" is even a joint composition by Scott, Russell Ferrante and Jimmy Haslip and it's right up with their most efervescent work. Yellowjackets fans know that Scott has done session work for them, as well as having toured with them during the tour that their "Livewires" album was recorded on. And they return the favor bigtime here without going for joint "and the..." billing on the cover. There's even the old standard "You Don't Know Me" (of Ray Charles fame), done smooth jazz style. Now I know what the 'Jackets would sound like if they sent Mintzer on vacation and substituted a female vocalist."
