"Normally, nothing bores me more than smooth-jazz renderings of the so-called Great American Songbook. Maybe that's why I was expecting a pretentious and contrived time on this CD. Wrong!! Lucy Ann Polk's lusciously laid-back singing suggests an artist who can do anything she wants with her voice, and anytime she wants to. Her intonation, sense of swing, and dynamic control are all astonishingly perfect. Of the brilliant musicians who provide background for her vocal greatness, Marty Paich's sophisticated ivory-work suggests a musician who has studied every last innovation of 20th-century jazz and art music, and who can reference them at will, and in any context.I have some 45s on which Ms. Polk sings with Jimmy Dorsey. I feel a duty to dig them out, without delay. Meanwhile, your duty is to buy this wonderful CD!"
Wonderful Music For A Rainy Day

"I bought this cd based on one song I had heard on a mixed compilation. It was a risk, but boy am I glad I did! It's a perfect cd filled with nice mellow, yet upbeat songs. It makes for great background music during parties, a Sunday drive in the country, or a nice rainy day. Her voice is a bit like Doris Day's, but with a nice jazzy touch. Can't say enough!"
A Real Gem

"A vocalist with a very refreshing voice out of the Doris Day type of delivery and style......with just a bare hint of June Christy in some of her phrasing. Hardly surprising since I remember her from some of her vocals with Les Brown. She married Dick Noel, the trombonist on this cd, while both were with the Brown band. Since she only had 3 releases under her name, with that fine voice, I can only conclude she gave up her career to raise a family. This is really good music....lightly swinging with excellent personnel. Most anyone will like this one!"

"This is such a good cd. I don't just hand out 5 stars to everything I rate, but this one sure deserves it. Lucy Ann Polk has the sweetest, silkiest voice you ever heard, along with great phrasing and a terrific selection of songs. The backing group understands how to add to the singer's voice instead of overshadowing it, as sometimes happens with female vocalists. Her version of How About You is as good as vocal jazz gets. Do yourself a favor and get a copy."
As good as it gets.

"This CD is a gem and I know for a fact, there aren't many copies of it out there. An original copy of the LP sells for over $150! The music is both relaxing and swingin'. Lucy Ann's voice is simply seductive. Her version of Easy Living is without a doubt, the best I've heard. It's easy to see why she was voted Down Beat's Big Band Female Singer of the year back in the 50's. Don't miss this one."
