Al V. (Al) from HOOVER, AL Reviewed on 4/13/2007...
Some of his really good, not so commercial r& b sides. Ol Lou sure had good pipes. Give a listen to the old chestnut, Now and Then There's a Fool Such as I. Not since the Robins in about 1952 has an r & b rendition been so good. Of course, there are some of his hits here too.
CD Reviews
Would be great if it wasn't missing Dead End Street.

"If you are looking to find Dead End Street, as I was, then don't buy it, because it is not on the album. I don't know how the record company missed it, but they did. There are other great songs on the set, but my exuberant anticipation of finally finding the long sought after Dead End Street, soon turned to disappointment upon discovering that the discography and liner notes are in error."
Avoid this album

"It's 1/6/06 -- Lou Rawls died today, and what a loss. I'm sure many people will be visiting this site to order his music. AVOID THIS ALBUM! If it were just titled "Lou Rawls" it would be fine. But to say this was his "GREATEST HITS" is a downright lie. It's a good album (anything with his voice would be), but don't let the title fool you. Read everyone else's comments and believe what they say. There are other great CDs here. This ain't one of them."
Unforgivable Lapse by Greedy Record Company

"Typical of the recording business... they take something as sacred as the voice of the great Lou Rawls and then try to compromise it with a shoddy product like this one. First of all, Lou's "Greatest Hits" aren't here, and then, sure enough, the legendary "Dead End Street" isn't even included, although it's on the label and track listing. Is Mike Curb still alive?

Bad track selection?

"During the mid to late seventies, Lou Rawls, the voice of cool smooth soul, bought us the hits of "you'll never find another love" and "lady love". I can't believe that out of the many Rawls discs on here, that there is not one compilation that contains both these hits, not even one of them. Big Red Cross for Curb / M C A / B M G ?. I guess the people responsible for his catalogue will score it better next time."
Caveat Emptor

"First off, this is a budget priced CD from Rawls' early work (no 70's hits,) which would be fine because it's fairly cheap and has classics like "Your Good Thing..." and "Love is a Hurtin' Thing."
What absolutely cannot be excused is the fact that neither "Dead End Street" nor it's monologue are actually on this CD. This is despite the front cover, back cover, CD label and the liner notes (TWICE!)
Whatever label bosses were responsible for this rip-off should never work in the industry again. Period. Rawls deserves better."
