"Paul McCartney is British and that is part of his charm. To me he has always been more interesting when he sings songs that are about his homeland. Paul is best when he sings songs that are of Beatles quality. One of the problems with Paul, is that many of his songs these days are not Beatles quality. This album in many ways could pass for an effort by the Beatles

London Town starts out the CD and is one of my favorite McCartney songs of all time.

He talks about rain falling down upon the dirty ground of London Town.

He then goest to Cafe on the Left Bank, which to me remains European.

I'm Carrying to me is a balad that is one of his better ones.

I've had Enough is a Rocker for those who want to hear the Beatle side of Paul.

With a Little Luck was a very popular tune and one of his Greatest Hits.

They have added Mull of Kintyre, which in my mind is the finest Paul McCartney solo song of all time. With bagpipes and all it does not get any better...........This is worthy of any McCartney collector"

"As the two opening tracks indicate this was originally something of a concept album about different parts of the world (London,England and Paris, France for the first two tracks)but that quickly went by the wayside as McCartney and Denny Laine completed more songs for the album.



"London Town" is a fine Wings album a huge improvement over "Wings at the Speed of Sound" which had too much filler, too many other members of the band singing and not enough Paul. Although it's not a perfect album and has too much filler/unfinished songs ("Backwards Traveler/Cuff Link", "Name and Address" which doesn't have an ending and peters out, Laine's "Deliver Your Children","Morse Moose and The Grey Goose" which lyrically needs work aand you can put whichever one you feel should have been left off here as well)and could use more rockers ("GIrl's School" one of the bonus tracks here SHOULD have been on the album why not throw one of the lesser tracks on as the b-side of "Mull of Kintre"?).



Recorded when the late guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English left the band (they're on a handful of tracks here), it was down to the same trio that recorded Wings best album "Band on the Run"--the McCartneys and Laine playing everything on the album for the bulk of the tunes.



The big hit singles "With A Little Luck" and "I've Had Enough" do what McCartney has always done best--craft catchy, melodic singles with strong hooks. The latter tune is a great rocker that should have had a bit more bite but still managed to help keep the album in the top 10.



The remastered edition of this features two bonus tracks (the single "Mull of Kintyre" and "Girl's School")and the remastering isn't too bad although the album sounds a little "soft" because of the use of noise reduction to diminish tape hiss (the original FAME CD sounds great).



I personally prefer the flawed follow up "Back to the Egg" simply because it's a harder rocking, more diverse album but "London Town" is a fine penultimate Wings album."

and it's mostly soft.. nothing

spectacular.. but consistently good."
