"Six months late.



That's how far behind the curve I was; from when Goodnight Venus was released last October, to the happenstance opportunity that allowed me to see Libby perform live this March.



Completely unaware of what the artist had to offer - I walked in and walked away from seeing Libby with a new appreciation of what can be done with music: the voice, the timidity of the soul, the lyrical imagery, the pure channeling of emotion, the hopscotch of melody and harmony, the interwining of psyches, and even the soft whispers of singing that speak at high volumes to one's soul.



This describes my introduction to Libby, live in concert. Goodnight Venus came home with me that night and didn't come out of the player for over a month. Her emotive delivery and sincere approach to songwriting has useful insight for every listener and is delivered on disc, and live, with conscious, sincere intent.



Goodnight Venus swoops from upbeat tempos to breathtakingly feathery ballads. Naturally, from the way the music affected me, I'm going to write a positive review...and since this random revalation of finding the musical magic that is Libby, I was able to see her perform four times, in four states, within four months.



I am lucky enough to have turned on a whole town to her music, and it's for certain you'll enjoy.



But at least you won't be six months late...

"Libby Kirkpatrick is, by anyone's measure, one of the best songwriters in Austin. Though her striking style most closely resembles that of Patty Griffin, her third album (and first national release) "Goodnight Venus," certainly breaks new ground with a marked departure from typical Texas folk. Libby's soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics lend the album an intimate, at times whimsical character that seems to have escaped the younger generation of Austin songwriters. While the effortlessness of her lyrical delivery on tunes such as "Vaulted Heart" and album-closer "This Raging Moment" might remind listeners of more contemporary sounds (Ani DiFranco), her melodic sense seems more typical of artists like Joni Mitchell or Rose Polenzani.A remarkable contribution to Austin's music culture, this is simply a must-have album for fans of the genre ... especially the aspiring songwriter/guitarist." ****1/2 (4.5 out of 5 stars) - Max Harger Daily Texan"

"They are rare indeed, CD's of perfection. I guess its the Virgo in me always looking for it and finding it seldom. This is one of those perfect, rare, gems that is a must for any collection. Start to finish Libby captures your heart and ear with her beautiful voice, lyrics, and melodies. I highly reccomend this superbly produced CD and hope to hear more from this Angel of perfection ........."
