"If you are already familiar with Liane, skip the review and just buy the cd. Buy it. Support Liane. She's in fine form here. For the uninitiated, this Vanguard CD reissue features 1950's Austrian chanteuse Liane Augustin with full orchestra. The Boheme Bar blokes are lamentably absent. Liane's voice is consistently delightful and charming throughout. The songs are a mixture of German and Austrian carols and American standards (White Christmas, etc.,) all brillantly handled by Liane. So what's not to like? Well, parts of the somewhat dated orchestration do occassionally get in the way of Liane's vocals. There are some overbearing Wurlitzer organ parts in several tunes. This is all secondary (and somewhat typical of 50's production), Liane is classic torch singer and handles it all with a wonderfully light and subtle touch. Some continental class and Old World elegance to go with the Yuletide season. As cool as snowfall in the Austrian Alps, Liane's voice is perfect here. Roast some chestnuts, get some gluwhin, eat some pfefferneuse and enjoy a Liane Christmas."
