"Starting with the 19 year-old starlet's first Decca tracks with Noble Sissie's orchestra, these two generous disks give us the complete master takes of her Bluebird-RCA and Black & White label recordings, covering the decade 1936 to 1946.Horne has performed and recorded right into her sunset years, but here are the tracks that made her a star. Fascinating, fun music in a good package with decent notes. Fans of Barbra Streisand may notice her debt to Horne; her famous style is basically half Judy and half Lena, a very winning combination. But of course Horne's feeling for black musical styles goes deeper and her vibrant personality is unique. Highly recommended!"
