"this cd is great, lots of vaudeville songs with lots of personality. Many of these, as a matter of fact probably all of them, I had never heard before purchasing this cd, but I am a great fan of this stuff despite my young age of 22. There are many of the period greats, such as George M Cohan doing "you wont do any business if you havnt got a band". his talking song style is evinced here. Also Aileen Stanely, a vaudeville sweetheart, and Sophie Tucker one of the greats! One of my favorite tracks is "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans", which we all know the obnoxious 60s version of it by Freddy Cannon, but this is done really well, in grand vaudeville style.
i bought this and i'm not sure it was on sale, i dont think i wasted a penny though! if you are looking for more songs that are well known, you might also check out and check out firstly, a 3 disc collection called "memories of old broadway" which has plenty by billy murray, Harry Richman, Al Jolson and others. but this vaudeville collection is worth listening to"
