"Beyond his facade of mysterious "Exotica", music's cult figure Korla Pandit knew his keyboards.
That fact is plainly evident in this Holiday fare originally recorded fifty-eight years ago (1949) by mentor Harry Bryant at his legendary Radio Recorders Studio located in Hollywood, California.
Korla Pandit Merry Xmas is a classic spiritual gem of gigantic proportions for the Holidays.
Nowhere will you find a more accurate, sensitive, definitive interpretation of Ave Maria than here.
Other Seasonal chestnuts included are Bist Du Bi Mir, Hark The Herold Angels Sing, The First Noel, Joy To The World, and Silent Night. Each contains the innocence of the Period during which they were recorded (and first released) on Vita Records.
Songstress Jette Satin (a Pandit creation born Gerrie Garcia) essays Irving Berlin's White Christmas and the Traditional Merry Christmas most effectively, accompanied on Hammond C-3 & Steinway Grand by Mr. Pandit, providing a nostalgic 40's sound.
This CD reissue - produced for Dejavu Record Company by Korla Pandit protege Verne Langdon from Korla Pandit's personal ten-inch mint album copy - harks back to Christmases past, evocative of a kinder, gentler, simpler time.
Korla Pandit Merry Xmas is a revisitation well-worth traveling, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year.
Sophisticated mastering techniques do wonders with a vintage disc, although nothing beats direct duplication from the original master. Unfortunately, such master recordings were not available for this project.
Nonetheless, Korla Pandit Merry Xmas is a joyous audio ornament you will be glad you own.
Christmas was reportedly Korla Pandit's favorite time of year, and that is immediately evident in this Holiday fare!
Merry Xmas!"
