"Fresh. Lovely. Tasty. Kate McGarry is a fine singer who is really in the moment when she sings. This album is just plain lovely. The album has a few well-known standards with beautifully crafted non-standard arrangements by the singer herself and the album's producer, Steven (Kowalczyk) Santoro, and others. The musicians backing her up are of her caliber. The arrangements are just plain tasty, especially Gypsy in My Soul. To single one tune out though as the best is difficult because as each plays I think it's my fave until the next tune begins. This woman can sing! What a fine piece of work. I'm already looking forward to the next one. I can only imagine what she is like to hear in person because she is so fabulous on the album."

"when you are a highly talented, creative singer like Kate McGarry, who can knock out sensitive, unique covers of items like "Gypsy in My Soul," "This is Always," "Get Out of Town," or "Oceano"--and are about as far from a household name as you get? Kate McGarry is terrific--and so are Kendra Shank, Barbara Sfraga, and Jackie Allen. These four are an example of what a glut of terrific women singers are out there--and a relative surfeit of talented male singers. Go figure. Here's hoping that at least one of them breaks out...."

"if you haven't heard kate mcgarry yet, you're in for a treat. i listen to jazz vocalists all the time, but have heard very few in recent years who bring something so fresh, original and truly beautiful to the time-honored jazz standards. her scatting is both thoughtful and soulful. kate's sound is breathy and innocent but still filled with emotion. also wonderful are the brazilian tunes she communicates such a love for and affinity with.i have listened to this cd over and over and keep finding a new favorite track. it's a recording created with depth and care that i can't recommend highly enough!"
