CD ReviewsGood, but why in mono? 12/04/1999 (4 out of 5 stars) "Julie Andrews is young and fresh on this CD, which is a delight. The performances are fine, though they lack the warmth and perception of her later recordings. My only quibble--why the heck is it in mono? It is a sparkling, digital reissue of a 1958 album, which was available in stereo; I have some of the tracks from the original disc in stereo and the separation of the sound is very good. Maybe it has to do with RCA licensing restrictions." Julie sings perfectly Michael Thomas | 07/28/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "I like Julie's singing and these songs. There a few of numbers are not well-known, but worth listening. Julie sings these songs perfect and softly. I love "falling in love with love" and "Cheek to cheek," "So in Love." It's worth buying! I recommend it highly!" Julie sings a storm Michael Thomas | Australia | 07/21/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I remember having this recording as a kid on vinyl and treasuring it until I wore it or the needle that played it out. I have only seen the CD on sale once, located at London's "Dress Circle" and I wish I had bought it then. It's taken me several years to finally get ahold of this CD and it was well worth the wait (thanks to the help and persistance of the Amazon team).
Sure we have heard Julie's great performances from her soundtrack albums but this recording and the recording of "The Lass with the Delicate Air" are truly fantastic. That clear bright fresh tone of Julie's voice in the 1950's is incredible and clear to see why she was the toast of Broadway and London's West End at the time. How great would it have been to see her then!!! The re-mastering of this album to CD is a joy. Clearer than ever before. I'm not sure if this album will be in most people's CD collection but if you are a fan of early Julie Andrews this CD is a must. Buy it, you won't regret it!" |
