CD Reviews

CLASS ACT!!!
Andrew Lantner | Hollywood, CA | 08/10/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Daryl has a beautiful, meticulous voice reminiscent of the great Blossom Dearie but with a distinctive quality all its own. The song selections are diverse and show her wonderful range. I particularly liked her renditions of "Isn't This a Lovely Day?" and "Moonburn". I have three of her other CDs (including "A Lady Must Live" and "I've Got My Fingers Crossed") and highly recommend they be searched out as well!"
An embarrassment of riches

"As if the chance to sing with my home-town hero, Dave McKenna weren't cause enough for celebration, Jubilee salutes four distinctive musical giants of the 20th century: Fred Astaire, Hoagy Carmichael, Noel Coward and Duke Ellington. There was a wealth of material to choose from and it was great fun to create new settings for these wonderful songs. Jubilee also boasts an all-star rhythm section comprised of Joe Cohn on guitar, Frank Tate on bass and Terry Clarke on drums, joining Dave McKenna on some tracks and I even play piano for myself on a few as well. There's enough spontenaity and swing for jazz fans and devotees of American Popular Song should also find this a satisfying sampling. As ever,my goal is to put a personal stamp on a song without compromising it. Hope you'll agree and enjoy..."
