"A wonderful mix of twenty-four French and English tunes with 1930s period to more later sophisticated arrangements. The sound is very good fidelity. Presented chronologically, these recordings were made from 1930 through 1937 and include popular French songs, selections from Josephine's revues and films. Also, American compositions by Cole Porter and Rogers - Hart.
Best of all is Josephine herself with clear enunciation and phrasing (helpful for brushing up your French). Stylistically, her singing is identifiably Josephine, a delivery that creates just the right setting for the song. Her beautiful trills add that "French" embellishment, sounding rounder and softer than Edith Piaf's sharper more forceful style. Josephine emotes feelings of joy, exotica, patriotism and vamp with a control that makes for enjoyable listening.
Supplies have been limited so if you can, get this DVD. It's a pleasure."
