Synopsis

Album Description
Probably the most-requested album in the Joni James canon! Joni made history when she appeared at Carnegie Hall in 1959; not only was she the first solo pop singer to give a concert there, but the 100-piece orchestra and 30-voice orchestra backing her made for one of the most elaborate shows those hallowed halls had ever witnessed. And this 1959 release preserved that magical night for posterity, now made more complete by our addition of three instrumental tracks (conducted by Joni?s late husband, Tony Acquaviva) that were excised from the original release. Also here are three bonus tracks from the I?m in the Mood for Love album she cut with the 100 Strings Orchestra?a Collectors? Choice Music exclusive!

CD Reviews

Joni James at Carnegie Hall
Allen Bardin | 03/08/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The release of this album on CD been long awaited by fans, partly because of the hope of additional material. Sadly, musician's union rules prevented any thing recorded beyond what was originally released. It's still a wonderful CD, with hit after hit. The high point of Joni James concerts has always been "Danny Boy." Here again the additional verses sung in concert are not on this CD. It's a big downer, but I still do
recommend this CD for old and new fans. It's the only recording of Joni live, where she's at her best."
