Musical Chemistry That Should Have Never Ended

"Great singers must have great voices and Mathis is one of the best in America. However that's not enough. A big arranger must complete the chemistry. And here the arranger is Don Costa, the long Sinatra collaborator who has also teamed with Mathis for three albums on Columbia Records and two ones on Mercury/Global Records. JOHNNY is the second Mathis-Costa collaboration and the result is astonishingly wonderful. All stars to the bolero arrangement of Cole Porter's I Love You. Now Columbia/Sony has the following Mathis/Costa CD balance due: Rapture (1964), Romantically (1965), The Sounds of Christmas (Global, 1966), and Tender is The Night (Global, 1965)."
