"Have you ever been out on a date and said something stupid that you wished you could take back? Ever thought that maybe you've already met 'The One' and just passed them on the sidewalk? Ever been driving down the highway and wanted to just keep on going, away from everything? Well, so has John Mayer.Mayer writes songs about feelings and experiences that are universal, but expresses them in a voice that is uniquely his own. I doubt there is anyone out there who can't relate to at least one song on "Room for Squares". His lyrical brillance makes John's CD something to be poured over, like a great novel that you can't put down. What makes these 12 songs so amazing is that they aren't like every song you hear on the radio, about falling in or out of love, but about real life, and what everyone goes through. As John himself has said, "I'm just like all of you, I just have a nicer guitar...". Musically, John (a former student at Berklee College of Music)is among the most talented guitarists in music today, and on this CD he is backed by musicians of the same caliber. Talent like Mayer's is rare, and the best way to really appreciate it is to witness it live...but if you can't get to a show, "Room for Squares" is the next best thing. This will absolutely be the best $13 that you've spent in a long time...this CD will become the soundtrack to your life as soon as you put it in your CD player. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, and after you hear it, you'll know why!"

"How do I entice you? What words can I type to paint the right picture? How do you describe a CD that keeps pulling at you, saying "play me again"?You can read other reviews to learn a bit more about John Mayer - or go to his web site. My job is to help you know why you want to listen to this CD.1st - every track is interesting, both lyrically and musically. I've been listening to this CD for a week, and each day a different track is my favorite. During the first few runs I focused on the sound - beautiful guitar working, excellent voice (reminds one of Dave Matthews or Sting), good production. Then you start to focus on the words. This guy can write.2nd - some of my favorite lyrics: "I'm never speaking up again. It only hurts me I'd rather be a mystery, than she desert me" - My Stupid Mouth"Something 'bout the way the hair falls in your face I love the shape you take when crawling towards the pillowcase" - Your Body is a Wonderland"whatever happened to my lunchbox?" - 833rd - the music fits the lyricsOK - I haven't convinced anyone. How can you describe music? How can you portray the addiction this CD creates?Don't believe me - find a way to listen to this CD. It may just get you also.Avoid this CD if you don't like clever lyrics, melodies, solid arrangements. It isn't loud, it isn't avant garde - it's just beautiful. You might even thank me."

"I am just mad for this cd. I first came across John Mayer during MTV's Real World New Orleans. On the first episode, or maybe second, there's this moment of Danny waiting for his boyfriend Paul. On the soundtrack is a song called "Back To You" that I went nuts for and searched fruitlessly with no luck. After weeks I posted a query on a MTV message board, and someone knew it was this guy from Atlanta! I ordered his 1st cd from an indie label and thought it was great...until this one! This guy is so talented, it's a very jazzy, pop, acoustic set. Kinda like Dave Mathews without the hype and loads more charisma. And his voice is so smooth with just a little raspiness The fore mentioned "Back To You" is on here, polished and even better. "Why Georgia" is a lovely mid-tempo number about the meaning of life. "My Stupid Mouth" besides being a great title is a jaunty ditty about a bad first date. "Your Body Is a Wonderland" is damn sexy! Every track is a winner. It's so rare to find a cd that you love as whole. This kid is going places, don't be left behind! Buy this cd you will not regret it."

"i'm completely addicted and in love. the lyrics of john's music are so captivating, it draws you in and leaves you begging for more (well me at least). john mayer is like a new, great laundry detergent. once you try it, and discover it's the best, you will never, and i mean never, go back. like other have said, he's been our best kept secret, but now he's getting bigger and its slightly sad to see it happen. again, he's amazing live and i often find my head tilted and a slight smile crossing my face while i am completely engulfed in his world."
Room for Squares... Wonderful!!

"Having followed John Mayer since he first played clubs in Atlanta, I was worried that his first major-label album would be over-produced and too "commercial." Having heard the CD, the worst thing I can say about it is that it's going to force me to share John with the rest of America. You heard it here first. I'm not sure how to describe John's music, except to say that if you put James Taylor, Sting, Dave Matthews and Barenaked Ladies in a blender and set it to puree, you'd have John (and a terrible, bloody mess). Most albums have a few good or even great songs, and the rest of the time is padded with filler. "Room for Squares," though, doesn't have a dud anywhere. While there are songs I like more than others (I think "No Such Thing" and "83" are far superior to "Why Georgia"), they're all good.Do yourself a favor and try this CD. I know it sounds like I'm a phony, writing this for the record company, but all I am is one of many devoted fans torn between keeping John all for ourselves and sharing him with everyone else. I admit defeat. He belongs to all of us now."
