Album DescriptionVocalist/lyricist and Southport co-founder Joanie Pallatto and the legendary pianist/composer King Fleming join musical forces on their new CD collaboration, "The King And I." With ten of the fourteen songs on the CD being original King Fleming compositions, Joanie has contributed lyrics to five tunes. The result is the creation of new vocal standards for the millennium. This new recording of Joanie Pallatto and King Fleming is a permanent keepsake for the jazz lover's CD collection, a true collaboration between the composer and lyricist. King Fleming appeared on the legendary Chess/Argo label in the 60's with three releases as a leader, and for Southport, the 1996 CD, "The King Fleming Songbook." His life has been a musical mirror to the progression of modern jazz song composition. Joanie Pallatto, who began her jazz vocal career with a stint touring with The Glenn Miller Band, offers her passion and world view by way of a new found lyrical emotion. This is the real thing. As if falling from a film noir world, "Moody" paints the classic beauty of a 40's ballad. In "Eastgate," another Pallatto/Fleming original, Joanie sings "I wish I had a limousine..." verbally wishing for a time when cars were 'real' and couples dressed for dinner. "The King And I" becomes a music bridge of forms and emotions, lifting us into a perfect mood. On "The King And I" you'll hear Clifford Griffin's acoustic bass, Bill Cochran's drums, Rich Fudoli's flute & soprano sax, Bobby Lewis' trumpet & flugelhorn and Von Freeman's tenor sax
