Jim Brickman's 1997 holiday package is all satin bows and glowing hearth embers, precisely the approach his romantically inclined legions would have wished him to take. Those with less sentimental ears might argue that at ... more »times the pianist's approach is a touch too sweet. "Joy to the World" would be more affecting as a solo work, for instance, and we could have done without the strings and music-box embellishments heard in "Angels." Yet Brickman compensates by delicately tracing a path to our heart-of-hearts in the album's two superb, nonholiday originals, "Fireside" and "Winter Peace." Three vocal tracks surface here: a breathy Kenny Loggins sings on the album's obligatory lullaby ("Starbright"), the female gospel group Point of Grace takes a bow ("Hope is Born Again"), and country vocalist Collin Raye performs a heart-clutching duet with Susan Ashton on the title track. It's not Brickman's finest record, but it's a very pretty one. --Terry Wood« less

Jim Brickman is a wonderful pianist and the only reason I am posting is that we had 2 of the same CD's. Very mellow listening.

A Wonderful Christmas CD, it's well worth your money!

"I love this CD so much! My mom got me hooked on Jim Brickman and his "The Gift" is one of the best. I liked the song "Hope is Born Again" so much that I played it on repeat all night during the holiday season most every night. The "Gift" and "Starbright" are also some of my non traditional Christmas favorites. For those fans of traditional Christmas music, he has also included many beautiful arrangements of these. It is a must have CD for the Christmas season!"

"Jim Brickman had done us a huge favor releasing this piano Christmas album with familiar tones and non-traditional music. The album is a breakthrough from the traditional Christmas albums with pure piano music. "Joy to the World", "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", and "Oh Christmas Tree" are among the most popular Christmas favorites. Brickman also recorded new tunes like "Hope is Born Again". Duet "The Gift" performed by Susan Ashton and Collin Raye is yet another non-taditional favorite."
A Christmas Favorite

"I have many Christmas CDs and this is probably my favorite. I'm not that big of a fan of instrumental music, but the first time I heard this CD I knew there was something special about it. The arrangements are both soothing and contemporary. Sprinkled in are wonderful vocal selections from Kenny Loggins, Susan Ashton and Point of Grace. Every Christmas I try to think of someone I know who doesn't have it so I can give it to them. It makes, and is, a wonderful Christmas gift"
