"Isang Yun was composed five symphonies and two chamber symphonies. This recording is a part of Yun's complete symphony project by CPO(Classic Produktion Osnabruck). This 5th symphony was composed in 1987, and first performed by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Hans Zender. This work's lyrics were written by Swedish poet Nelly Sachs who refuged from the Nazi's third Reich in 1940. Yun was very liked Sachs' poems, so he used other vocal works, too(For example, Teile dich, Nacht(1980) and Der Herr ist mein Hirte(1981).). These poems' principal subject is 'Peace'. Its baritone solo part is very hard because Yun demand many contemporary skills and some Korean traditional vocalization. But in this performer-Richard Salter, who was member of King's Singers, sang perfectly this poet and song. And the Poland's Orchestra-Filharmonia Pomorska Bydgoszcz-is not known their name widely, but performed fascinating this symphony. Needless to say, this nice performance was created by conductor-Japanese Takao Ukigaya who had first complete recording of Yun's symphonies-, too."
