CD Reviews

Good (second) comeback single from Mondays
C.F. | California, USA | 11/08/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Expecting just another cash-in from Ryder and his crew? After all, this is the second comeback single from the Mondays after '99s disastrous "The Boys are back in town". Well, riding on the crest of his part in Gorillaz' number one single "DARE", Ryder-led Mondays' new single -- off the soundtrack for Euro football film "GOAL!" -- is a funky rocker. Despite loads (and loads) of drugs, Ryder's voice has aged well, and is just as sleazy as before.

Sure, these Madchester icons are dinosaurs in the realm where Kasabian and Pete Doherty reign supreme, but the Mondays still know how to put out a catchy tune. The title track sounds more like Ryder's work on Black Grape's first album, which is certainly a good thing. The track is laced with harmonicas, synths, and a hummable melody. "Redanka's 4-4-2 Vocal Mix" is okay, but nothing special really.

Basically, this is only worth the price of the import for Madchester and Happy Mondays fans, for others, either look to the soundtrack for the film, or Happy Mondays inevitable comeback album."
