Classic Guy Clark

"I've been a Guy Clark listener forever, it seems.

I never get tired of hearing his voice, with the many twists & inflections he is capable of, plus the songs that he writes sound better (IMHO) when he sings 'em. The words & meaning seem to come across clearer somehow. Not to take anything away from others who sing 'em, please understand.

I like EVERY single song on this double CD, it stays in my bedroom player for late night listening. From beginning to end this is a CD worth owning; it would be a real good introduction for those unfortunate few who have yet to become acquainted with this wonderful singer/song writer!

"The Houston Kid" alone is worth the price; I ain't never "washed my jeans inna tub fulla whiskey" .... but I guess I always wanted to!!!"

"I can be really picky about CDs. Either they're great or not----no in-betweens. This was GREAT! Loved every bit of it. Great accompaniment all the way through. Great collection of songs. Entertaining lyrics. Liked ALL the song choices. It was a good mix of mellow and energy---even a touch af Jamacan on "Voila, An American Dream"; the beat and combo with country were VERY pleasing! While all the songs were great listening, the guitar skill in "Fool On The Roof" was amazing. This is the perfect CD for long car trips---or any time!"
An Excellent Collection If You're Already A Fan

"The title of this release is a bit misleading. Sure, it's a "collection" but mostly from two albums, 1978's self-titled album and 1981's "The South Coast Of Texas." Both are fine releases, but if you're new to Guy Clark you'd be much better off starting with "Old No. 1," "Texas Cookin'," "The Essential Guy Clark" or "Hindsight 21-20: Anthology 1975-1995." "Old No. 1" and "Texas Cookin'," Clark's first two albums are stone cold classics, as good as it gets. "The Essential Guy Clark" collects most of the tracks, though not all, from these two albums. "Hindsight 21-20" is as close as there is to a full career retrospective. Also, it should be noted that while the liner notes to this CD claim it is "a compilation of two of Clark's best works...All twenty tracks from both classic albums are featured" this is not the case. 8 of the 10 tracks from "Guy Clark" are present as are 8 of the 10 tracks from "The Southcoast Of Texas." The remaining 4 tracks are from the 1992 release "Boats To Build." Still, the budget price makes this a very worthwhile addition to anyone who loves Texas singer-songwriters. Oh, and one other thing. They changed the running order of the songs from the original albums. Not a big deal, but really no reason to do so. Artists put songs in a particular order on their albums for a reason."
